Conferences can be difficult -- people are often over-scheduled and there's limited time between talks. The week at ETech I spoke to people several times and they didn't remember talking to me before (I realized I did the same thing to others and I'm not even important). ETech is a fraction of the size of SXSW so that must be even worse.

I had the best luck once I learned to be a little salesy about approaching people. Instead of introducing yourself like a normal human being, just go right up and say confidently, "We should talk." Then you have a window of about 30 seconds to make a pitch.

It's not something I'm naturally good at but it was kind of fun once I got the hang of it.

When I was at SXSW I went to a panel that had a guy from Penguin digital who was plugging We Tell Stories. What he was talking about in general with that division of Penguin, and wanting to tell interactive stories, sounded interesting, so I tried to approach him afterwards and talk about interactive story authoring from an IF perspective, but he was completely uninterested in hearing about it. He gave me a bored look and handed me a promotional card for We Tell Stories and basically ended the conversation, which was disappointing, but I guess not surprising.

I meant to go back and look up the project when it launched, but I forgot what it was called until you posted this.
